Dark, still so bloody dark. Her eyes never worked right in the dark, eagle eyes were meant for bright skies and long distances, not huddled in the light of a lamp. That light however was exactly what she had to read and write by, while she leaned against the wall of the school. He head was leaned against a stray cloud and hidden inside the bit of cloudstuff that was stuck to the wall was a stethoscope. Keeping the device hidden and properly pinned to the window without raising any red flags had been a matter of trail and error, the errors aimed at classes she never intended to listen to in the first place. A little bit of gum, a fair amount of patience and getting a little bit of something fabricated finally led to her getting to listen in on a class she wanted to. Following though was hard, three weeks of material already passed by, she couldn't risk being seen looking in so the chalk board was out of the question too. She had read most of the book already though, it was dense and hard. There were so many words she had to look up, so many little things slowing her down. But she knew above all else she needed to learn beyond the simple basics of arcane science, or her own power would remain almost completely dormant. That wasn't even the worst of it, she couldn't get to all the classes, she had missed both of the first weeks due to obstinacy from what she would call her 'boss'. This had been the first one she'd gotten to listen in on. Luckily the campus security was exceptionally lax and most of the ponies there were more interested in listening to their friends than watching what some gryphon was doing by one of the windows. This 'first' day however was not going to plan, she couldn't leave the window, her tool was stuck to it by a mix of ice and bad luck and worse the professor was busy responding to after class queries from the slow students. This wasn't a bad thing per se since it was giving her more things to make note of, however. It was making her a larger target. She was feeling rather exposed sitting next to a little cloud in her own bubble of light; while she continued to make notes. All she would need was somepony to try and talk to her, or investigate her, it was her fervent hope that nopony was nosy enough to care that she was effectively stealing the lecture portion of a class. |

The material was dense and hard because it was a refresher of high school magic courses, all packed into a single quarter. Star's head spun with it, but she was able to keep up, just barely; many of the things that got covered were intuitive for a unicorn, pertaining directly to proper handling of raw magical energy and telekinetic technique. Nothing too serious yet. Copying down her homework assignment from where it was written on the board, Wishing Star edged out of the cramped school desk and stretched, groaning with relief. Those things never got any easier to sit in. Well, Fireflare would probably be right at home in one, bendy little minx that she was, but the rest of ponykind found them uncomfortable. Packing away her things rather quickly, Star trotted out of the classroom and then the building, shivering in the chill air outside. Spring was coming, but it wouldn't actually finish springing for some time yet. For now it was still rather cold. She didn't have another class for about an hour, so Wishing Star stood around and waited for Fireflare to show up. The pegasus was probably coming to pester her even now; it was like they were joined at the hip or something. Star smiled at the thought. Not that being joined to Fireflare at the hip was a bad thing; to the contrary, it was usually rather fun. She totally failed to notice the super shady griffon standing against the wall behind her; this was a college campus. Students acting suspiciously was the rule, not the exception. |

"Stupid flight restriction laws," Fireflare muttered to herself. If she were allowed to go her own way she would have been there the moment Star got out of class but apparently flying over the Arcane Science building was against the rules. Granted, that was very practical but REALLY that security officer had to keep her and explain it for five minutes instead of just saying 'It's illegal, it's dangerous, don't do it.' Seriously, was that so hard? And now there was a griffon in front of her apparently trying to steal an education. Okay, fine, that was reasonable, given the way the economy was working, college was expensive... but really Fireflare was not in the best mood. "Ahem." |

It was times like this that he found himself wishing he'd actually listened to all those ponies who'd told him to get a species change. Since he was already having to carry his wand in his mouth to get back and forth to his office in time for his classes these days, he couldn't read and walk at the same time and had to carry all the books on the multiple topics he was heavily researching in a pair of saddlebags on his side. All to answer the millions of questions constantly zooming through his skull at the speed of light and then some; it was very irksome to him. On top of that, it was frustrating just how little so many of the students he was trying to teach were just flat out apathetic to his lectures on magical theory. It was his bucking Cutie Mark for Celestia's sake! If anypony knew what they were talking about, it was going to be him. He had built the wand he was carrying, allowing him- a simple earth pony- to use magic like any unicorn; not strong magic admittedly, but something that was neither her nor there. He was living proof that studying the theory of magic could be applied in ways that nopony else really considered possible and still not break the general magical laws; why was nopony else even remotely interested in this, even if they were unicorns? |

She'd noticed the incoming pegasus, the bright red pumage was hard to miss, but there was little she could do. Even stooped over her notes she managed to be only slightly shorter than Fireflare. She looked up, trying to be casual about removing her tool from the window, the teacher within had thankfully made them-self scarce now and the pop of the gum coming loose and the crackle of ice would no longer alert the professor. She smiled past a gulp, "Hi there Fi... Friend, can... is something wrong? I'm not in your favorite seat am I? I'm sorry, I'll move right away!" Almost blew that, way to go. She quickly gathered her things, shoving the notebook into a pocket on her vest while quickly blowing out the lamp and standing. She stepped away from the building and offered the spot on the ground, pretending that was the problem, hopefully neither would press further. Please let them not press further. Her eyes betrayed her though, the faint look of recognition in them, she couldn't help but know these two and at some level she didn't like them; at another they were dear friends. The emotions conflicted, but expressed only as that flicker. "There you are, sorry to have gotten in your way!" She spoke quickly, With the hint of 'southern' accent. |

Star waited patiently, adjusting her saddlebags and staring up at the streetlamps. They were quite pretty. Where was Fireflare? She didn't want to just wander off and leave the pegasus hanging, but she might have to. |

"Yeah, thanks. I had a bad day, that's all..." Fireflare paused, giving the griffon a more careful look. Something about her motions, the why her beak curved, struck a chord in her... but, Iron Claw had been a rather different set of feathers. It couldn't possibly... could it? No. "You know... you look familiar. I've traveled a lot, so I don't know exactly where I could have seen you... Eh, I won't turn you in. I know how it is to be without money." With a shrug, she descended to her wife, sneaking up behind her and covering her eyes. "Three guess who!" |

"Ahem." Conundrum cleared his throat from behind the pair; unlike some earth ponies, he'd never really mastered the art of talking around whatever he was carrying in his mouth. So he reached up and pulled his wand out so that he could address the two blocking the hallways. "If you could, save your lewd acts for the privacy of your home or bedroom." Okay, it was patently rude of him to say that when they weren't really doing all that much, but he wasn't in the best of moods thanks to running late. "More to the point, if either of you have any more classes, they're likely to start very soon; so I'd hurry up if I were you two." He placed his wand back into his mouth and set off in a fast trot toward his own classroom; magical theory needed to be taught even without a pony around to appreciate the knowledge he was giving them. |

The gryphoness gulped again, a bit of fear breaking into her expression, but in the end she was going to get away. She laughed awkwardly, "Thank you for understanding." She nodded her head a few times and made no effort to hold the mare in the situation any longer. She began her walk toward the exit a task that brought her past the whole situation with the earth pony. She tried to keep quiet, keep her beak out of the situation, but that ground pounder was being just too rude, "Hey! Look here," She stepped up, standing herself taller and puffing out just a bit where clothes didn't hold the feathers down, "That's not even close to lewd behavior, especially for those two! It's just a hug." She paused, there was definitely something wrong with her little defense. She stopped mentally to assess what she had said. 'Hey, look here!' Nothing bad there, get attention and hold it by invoking mild, but easily dissipated anger. 'That's not even close to lewd behavior.' An accurate statement, they hadn't even so much as kissed, pointing out a fact though can be upsetting to some ponies, nothing wrong about it though. 'especially for those two.' Also true. No probl... erk. Her face contorted as realization dawned, "AhaHa, never mind." She said suddenly as she turned and tried to trot at a healthy clip away from the scene. "Damndamndamn, why'd I say that." She mutters to herself as she exits easy overhearing range. |

"Oh no, it's got me! Please don't ravage me, mysterious stranger!" squealed Star, struggling playfully when Fireflare covered her eyes. When the random professor got on to them, she stopped and ducked out of Fireflare's embrace, opening her mouth to protest the lambasting. Confusingly, someone else did her protesting for her, acting as though they knew Fireflare and Wishing Star quite well before awkwardly trying to run away. "What the buck? Hang on, wait a second! Do we know you or something?" she called after the stranger, trotting after the griffon for a moment before coming to a stop. "Weird. We don't know any griffons, do we? I mean, I don't think we do...the only one that I've ever really talked to wasn't really a griffon. Remember that? Iron and his stupid pin addiction..." Star trailed off before she finished that sentence, staring into space for a moment. Then she bolted after the retreating griffon. "IRON HOOF! STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM!" |

"...Crap, I KNEW I'd seen her somewhere before! I THOUGHT YOU SWORE OFF TRANSMOG PINS, YOUNG STALLION!" Fireflare flew after her wife and the griffon, catching up with both of them and landing right in front of Sybilla. "Iron, we've been over this! This, this obsession of yours, it's like an addiction and if you don't control it something really really bad could happen! Like... I don't know what, I'm not a magic expert, but..." After a moment, she shook her head. Some part of her sort of saw Iron as a surrogate son... no, more of a little brother. Who she and Star had a threesome with once when he was a filly... "Whatever. You know what? Whatever. This is your life, I shouldn't... so!" Forcing herself to smile, the pegasus gave the griffon a friendly punch on the shoulder. "Guess what? Star and I have two kiddos of our own now. And a home, too! So, you know, life is okay. How are things with you?" |

She'd been made, sort of. The gryphoness started to run as Wishing Star yelled out for her to stop, this was not a conversation that she was interested in having. However quickly enough Fireflare had appeared and gotten in front of her and proceeded to try and lecture her. Not wanting to plow into the red pegasus, she came to sudden and rough stop where upon she was subjected to Fireflare's scolding. The experience brought forth a whole suite of memories, she grimaced as the prime one came forward the week that essentially led to her eventual creation. She backed away from Fireflare, only to realize that Wishing Star was now almost right behind her. Sibylla swung away from both of them, backing up several steps, "I'm not Iron Hoof." She braced herself then stepped forward, "And don't you dare call me Iron 'Claw'!" Boldness was not something that she was prone to, submitting and fleeing usually got her out of sticky situations faster than resiting or even raising her voice, but she could hear them in her mind calling her 'Iron Claw' and that was not something she wanted to hear again. The name came with far too much baggage for her to ever use, ever. She pointed at them for a moment, to emphasize the point, "I'm not him." With that said she made to abscond from the area again, by suddenly breaking into a run that would lead her away from the pair, even as the conversation moved away from pins and transmogrification she didn't want to stick around and face the accusation that she was some mask that Iron put on while screwing around with pins. The universe split around Wishing Star as she simply teleported in front of the fleeing griffon, popping into existence about five feet ahead of her and bracing for the impact. "Stop!" |

Wait what? What? Whaaaaat? Fireflare's brain froze up and she stared at the scene in utter confusion. This lasted for all of half a second before she realized the gryphon was still charging at Wishing Star. Instinct kicked in and she zipped after the strange avian, body checking her and skidding to a halt right in front of her wife. She took advantage of the moment to pin her prey to the ground, wrapping her forehooves around the griffon's chest and pressing into her flank with a rear leg. "Right. I don't know why you're scared and panicked, but this won't solve anything. SO here is what is going to happen. We are, all three of us, going to buy lunch. You are, very calmly and clearly, going to explain what's going on. And then, we will all discuss what happens next. Got it?" |

She tried to jump over Wishing Star, even clearing the mare for a moment before being body checked and thrown to the ground. Sibylla wasn't back on her feet before Fireflare could get a hold on her and begin pinning her in place. "Let go!" As the pinning became more complete she worked to get her claws around the Pegasus's forelegs. Doing so was easy enough, but try as she might, she couldn't break the stronger mare's grip. So she was forced to lay and listen to Fireflare's proposal, one she wanted to reject outright, but was quickly getting the feeling she didn't have a choice about. Between Fireflare's better flight skills and Wishing Star's teleportation, there was no easy way to get away. To that end she laid back and let the pegasus continue to hold her while she worked up a quick and dirty flash spell, but just as she was about to start to cast; it occurred to her that these were Iron's friends and that hitting them even with a harmless spell might have consequences. So it was with much resignation she sighed and said, "Fine. Fine." |
